How do translations work?
The Top of Minds website is available in four languages: Dutch, German, English, and Spanish. In the CMS, this means that there are four versions of the website, plus a general website. The URLs of the different websites are different:
- General website: .com
- This website does not contain any content. This is the start screen where users can choose which country website they want to visit.
- In the dashboard, this version of the website is displayed as the US version.
- Dutch website: .com/nl
- German website: .com/de
- English website: .com/en
- Spanish website: .com/es
The English website lists job vacancies from all countries. The Dutch, German, and Spanish websites only list job vacancies from the respective country.
Job vacancies are automatically posted on the correct website and therefore do not need to be translated. Other pages, such as ‘About us’, ‘Contact’ and ‘New leaders’, do need to be created on the websites and must, of course, be translated.
Follow these steps to translate a page:
- Complete the page you want to translate on, for example, the Dutch website. All content will be copied to the translated page.
- Go to the CMS dashboard.
- Go to the content library.
- Select the language of the page (in this example, Dutch).
- Find the relevant page and click on the pencil icon.
- Click on the copy icon at the top right next to Save.
- Click on Duplicate to ... and select the correct language.
- The page will now be duplicated. This may take a moment.
- Go back to the content library.
- Change the language and find the page you just copied.
- Click on the blue URL to edit the page in the editor or edit the post settings by clicking on the pencil icon.
The pages are automatically linked to each other. Example: A visitor views the Dutch contact page but switches to the German version of the website. The German contact page is immediately displayed.
The content of the pages is not linked. When copying the page to another language, all building blocks are included, but any changes you make afterwards are not automatically copied.
